Hyundai Genesis reliability report – 2012 Genesis luxury sedan named most dependable mid-size premium sedan!
The car buying public has been aware for quite some time now that Hyundai have been producing beautifully designed vehicles at a great price, but for some the question of long-term dependability was still left open.
That has now been answered courtesy of the 2012 J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) which ranked the Hyundai Genesis sedan number one in the midsize premium car category.
The Genesis sedan was first launched in 2009 and holds the distinction of being Hyundai’s first ever North American Car of the Year winner.
Cars aren’t eligible for the 2012 J.D. Power and Associates honor until it has been on the market for three years.
At that point, owners of the vehicle answer a survey about their experience with the car, with the highest rated vehicle getting the nod from J.D. Power and Associates. The Genesis was the only category award recipient in its first year of eligibility, which is a huge honor for Hyundai.
Erwin Raphael, director of engineering and quality, Hyundai Motor America stressed that the goal of the company was to make cars that not only meet, but exceed customer expectations for as long as they own the vehicle.
He went on to say that the award from J.D. Power and Associates went a long way towards justifying the efforts that are put into every car Hyundai makes. He was particularly pleased that the Genesis sedan got the win, as it proves that premium car holds as much substance as it does style, which translates to long-term reliability and a positive experience for the owner.
Hyundai may have to add more space to the Genesis sedans trophy cabinet as it has racked up the awards since its 2009 model year release. In addition to the J.D Power and Associate’s and North American car of the Year honors, it has also received nods from Motor Trend, AutoPacific and Cars.com.
The $34.200 starting MSRP of the new Hyundai Genesis is only one reason why the competition is being left behind. The current model comes with three different powertrain options: the Lambda 3.8L direct injection V6 engine producing 333 horsepower; Hyundai’s Tau 4.6L V8 engine producing 385 horsepower; and the new Tau 5.0L direct injection V8 engine producing 429 horsepower, available on the Genesis 5.0 and Genesis R-Spec models.
It also boasts an array of cool technology products that are on a par with luxury models, as well as 5-star safety ratings from the NHTSA.
The VDS survey conducted by J.D. Power and associates focuses on problems experienced by owners during the past 12 months, and is limited to owners who purchased the vehicle in its 2009 model year.
The study lists 202 possible problems across all areas of the car, with the overall dependability determined by the number of problems per 100 cars. It’s a very accurate survey, with a lower number score being an indicator of higher quality.
Hyundai’s VDS scores have shown consistent improvement, with the problems per 100 vehicles dropping by 75 points in the last 5 years alone.
